The Garde Hotel & Anglesea Restaurant
Buckingham Redevelopment Co. was proudly appointed as Head Contractor for the Old Courthouse Precinct Redevelopment, delivering the landmark transformation that now includes The Garde Hotel and Anglesea Restaurant.

This complex and highly detailed project involved the adaptive reuse of the former Warders’ Cottages and ex-Police Station complex into a luxury boutique hotel and restaurant precinct. The works required careful coordination between heritage restoration and new construction to ensure every element of the site’s historic character was preserved while accommodating contemporary design and functionality.

Buckingham Redevelopment Co. managed the full scope of works including new lifts, a dedicated substation, domestic and fire service tanks and pumps, wet and dry fire systems, electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic services. The restoration of the original heritage fabric was meticulously undertaken, including reinstatement of timber windows, original doors, and internal wall finishes to preserve the building’s authentic charm.

A major feature of the redevelopment was the addition of two new upper storeys, providing additional luxury hotel rooms with panoramic views over Fremantle, the ocean, and surrounding heritage façades. Externally, the building was finished with travertine stone cladding, and internally, a bespoke high-end fit-out completed the transformation into one of Fremantle’s most prestigious destinations. The project also included the creation of Anglesea Restaurant and Bar, featuring premium finishes and a refined atmosphere adjacent to the hotel lobby and meeting spaces.

A challenging yet rewarding project, The Garde and Anglesea stand as a testament to Buckingham Redevelopment Co’s capability in delivering complex heritage redevelopments that combine historical integrity with modern luxury.
